About Hawkinge Community Fridge
Hawkinge Community Fridge was set up by local volunteers who wanted to do something practical about food waste and community support in Hawkinge.
We believe that food should be eaten, not wasted — and that community projects work best when they are open, friendly, and inclusive.
Our volunteers collect surplus food from local supermarkets that would otherwise be thrown away. We then make it freely available to anyone in the community who would like it.
We are proud to be part of the wider UK Community Fridge movement and to be helping reduce food waste while bringing people together.

Volunteering with Hawkinge Community Fridge (HCF)
As the title suggests, working at the HCF is unpaid. However for the safety and security of everyone working at the HCF and our clientele, all volunteers, lets call them staff, are interviewed and selected on their suitability for the role.
All staff must have at least Food Safety and Hygiene Level 2, and we provide certificated training in this for new staff who need it, also regular refreshers for existing staff.
